Most Important Bollywood Singers and Songwriters

Bollywood music has always been popular in India and in its surrounding countries, partly because of the songs themselves and partly because of the famous singers. There are some Bollywood celebrity musicians out there who are able to mobilize entire crowds and produce hit after hit. Here are some of the most important Bollywood music singers and film makers.

One of the most significant names that can’t be overlooked is that of Atif Aslam. He comes from Pakistan and has delivered some of the best known pieces of Bollywood music. At just 26 years old, he is famous in the southern part of Asia and many other people from all over the world are interested in his work. One of his most popular songs appeared in 2004 and it is titled Aadat, which basically means “habit”. This is also the name of his debut album which included other singles like Dil Haarey, Teri yaad, Ik Din Ayega and Bikhra Hoon Main. Atif Aslam has started to enter the occidental market and he will even release an album in 2010, featuring Chris Brown. In 2008, one of his top songs was Bakhuda Tumhi Ho.

When it comes to songwriters, everyone who likes Bollywood music has heard about Allah Rakha Rahman. He is probably the most important Bollywood media figure to have ever lived and he has multiple roles in this industry: musician, singer, producer and film composer. Rahman first got involved in the Bollywood scene in 1992, creating his own music record, the most important studio of that time. One of his more recent songs is called Tu hi meri dost hai, produced in collaboration with Shreya Goshal. This song, along with Kabhi Kabhi Aditi and Kaise Mujhe, which also belong to him, are the best Bollywood songs of 2008, according to some sources.

If you look at older Bollywood films and music, you have to notice Anadnd Bakshi. He was born in 1930 in a place which is now part of Pakistan and he was one of the biggest Indian poet and lyricists. He became famous in 1973 after singing in a film called Mon Ki Gudiya. He took part it two songs which are now famous among Indians: Baaghon me bahaar aayi hothon pe pukaar aayi and Mein Dhundtatha sapno me. As a lyricist, Anadnd Bakshi composed music for more than 300 films. His first popular song was written in 1972 and appeared in the movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The song was called Dum Maro Dum. His work can also be seen in movies like Sholay, Mohra, Mohabbatein and Yaadein. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2002 due to organ failure.

These are just a few names from the large Bollywood music industry. These icons have contributed with many songs for the Indian culture and some of them have brought this type of music into the rest of the world, especially in the last few years.
